General Information
The tournament was established in 2010 in memory of Doug Perkes, who passed away in June of 2009. Doug was an avid sports person who felt the best way to stop good kids from making bad choices was to involve them in team sports. In his memory, a fund was established to financially aid local youths who otherwise would not be able to play hockey and other minor sports and the fund has provided financial assistance to young players each year since its establishment. To date, the fund has contributed to the registration fees for 77 players and it's our hope that the profits from this tournament will continue to help many kids for many years to come.
The tournament has grown from an initial 6 team format over a day and half in 2010 to where it's now a maximum 16 team, two and half day tournament. Although the tournament has expanded, its goal of focusing on providing a fun and an enjoyable experience for all participating teams has continued. The tournament guarantees a minimum of four games for each team with the possibility of a fifth game with a registration fee of $1,200. Tournament features include:
- player of the game awards for each team during round robin play,
- player for the tournament award for each team (a composite hockey stick),
- a tournament toque for each player,
- a meal for players and team staff, and
- no gate fees.
The 2025 version of the tournament will be held from Friday, February 7th to Sunday, February 9th using both the Seaforth and Hensall arenas for the round robin portion. The play-off portion games are all held at the Seaforth arena.
Although the tournament is now full with 16 teams registered, other teams interested in participating may complete the
Waiting List Application Form
available on the tournament website and will be considered if a spot becomes available.
