The A Championship game saw the Saugeen Valley Steelheads play the Wingham Ironmen Blue.
The Steelheads opened the scoring with a goal halfway through the first period. The Ironmen responded with their own goal with near the end of the period for a 1-1 tie as the period ended.
The second period was scoreless. The Ironmen did successfully kill off a 4 minute double minor penalty in the last 5 minutes of the period.
The third period was hotly contested. The Steelheads scored a go ahead goal with 6 minutes remaining that ratcheted things up a notch. The Ironmen incurred an interference penalty with 3 and half minutes to go (increasing the pressure) but the Ironmen were able to kill it off. With the goalie pulled, the Ironmen pressed for the tying goal but it was not to be. The Saugeen Valley Steelheads won the A Championship 2-1.
As this marks the end of this year's 2026 Doug Perkes Memorial Tournament, the Tournament Committee would like to thank all 14 teams that participated. We hope you enjoyed yourselves and that we'll see at least one team from each of your associations at next year's tournament which is being held February 5-7, 2027.
