U18C Silver Stick Champions
The U18C team earned the title of Silver Stick Champions, at the regional tournament in Ayr on Sunday, December 4, after defeating the Perry Sound Shamrocks 3-1 in the Championship game.
Everything came together for this team with relentless offensive pressure, outstanding defence and stellar goaltending to work their way to the championship.
The tournament started Friday afternoon with a hard fought 3-2 win over Penetanguishene. Goal scorers with John Pelss, Henry Regier and Parker Heard with one each.
Game 2 was a 4-1 loss to Parry Sound and pushed the Huskies into a win or go home situation for the rest of the tournament. Caiden Turner had the lone Huskies goal in the loss.
With no room for error, game 3 was tight battle against Hanover with both goalies turning back all shots except one. The Huskies came out with a 1-0 win when John Pelss beat the Hanover goalie with just 3:05 remaining in the 3rd period.
Game 4 was another tight one against Tillsonburg but the Huskies eked out a 2-0 win. Caiden Turner continued with his hot hands adding a goal while Ben O'Reilly had the game winner to help his team earn a rematch with Perry Sound in the final.
In the 5th and deciding game of the tourney the Huskies and Parry Sound battled hard throughout the first 2 periods but were still tied 0-0. Parker Heard opened the scoring at the 12:44 mark of the 3rd period. Perry Sound would tie it 1-1 at the 6:45 point but the Huskies would answer back quickly, just 27 seconds later, to move ahead 2-1 on a goal by John Pelss. The Huskies defence would stiffen to hold that score until the game was put out of reach with an empty net tally by Parker Heard with just 29 seconds remaining.
Assists throughout the tournament went to Graysen Flynn, Seth Ramer, Camden Leddy and Henry Regier with one each and Brandon Dalton with 2.
Cam Williscraft was in goal for all 5 of the Huskies games and finished the tourney with a 1.53 GAA.
It certainly wasn't easy feat but with a true team effort all weekend and every single player blocking shots, checking their man or taking hits to make plays, the Huskies U18C team add their name to the rafters and can now call themselves Silver Stick Champions.
