Rules and Regulations

1.     All O.M.H.A. rules and regulations shall apply.

2.     Approved roster sheets and travel permit must be received prior to first game played. Please have your roster with you at all times.

3.     During the Preliminaries portion of the tournament, each team will play 4 games. Following the Preliminaries, the top 8 teams will advance and play in one of 4 Championship Finals as follows:

  • 1st and 2nd place teams for the A Championship.
  • 3rd and 4th place teams for the B Championship.
  • 5th and 6th place teams for the C Championship.
  • 7th and 8th place teams for the D Championship.

4.     Teams must be dressed and ready to play at least 15 minutes in advance of their scheduled game time in case games are ahead of schedule.

5.     If there are conflicting sweater colours, the HOME team will be expected to wear sweaters of contrasting colour. The dominant colour for home sweaters is white (or a similar light colour). Please bring 2 sets of sweaters.

6.     There will be a two minute warm-up before each game, beginning when the first team steps on the ice.

7.     Preliminary round games will be 10-10-15 stop time periods with no time outs. Championship games will be 10-15-15 stop time periods, with each team allowed one 30 second time out. There will be no floods between periods, only at the end of games.

8.     Mercy rule for all preliminary round games: if a team is ahead by 5 or more goals in the third period, straight time will begin until the difference is reduced to less than 4 goals, in which case the clock will revert back to stop time. The clock will only be stopped if an on-ice injury should occur. Penalties incurred during running time will be served as 3 minutes. NO Mercy rule in Championship games.

9.     Preliminary round games will be played on a points-per-period basis with a maximum of 10 points to be awarded in each game. Each team will be awarded 2 points for a period win, 1 point for a period tie and 0 points for a period loss. The team winning the game will receive an additional 4 points. In the case of a game ending in a tie, an additional point will be awarded to each team. No overtime in preliminary round games.

10.   Tie-breaker: If two or more teams are tied after preliminary round-robin, ties will be broken based on the following order:

                1) Head to head result.

                2) Goal differential – Highest result from goals for minus goals against in all games.

                3) Goals against - Fewest goals scored against in all games.

                4) Goal for - Most goals scored for in all games.

                5) Least penalized - The team with the fewest penalty minutes in all games.

                6) A coin toss.

11.   Individual or team suspensions shall be enforced as per the O.M.H.A. Manual of Operations.

12.   Abusive behaviour by any player, team official or fan will not be tolerated and will result in the offending person/people being expelled from the tournament.

13.   Overtime for Championship games:

i) Sudden victory, 3 minute stop time to be played 4-on-4 with a goalie. (Penalties assessed during regulation time carry-over into overtime period).

Note: If a penalty is called during 4-on-4, or 3-on-3 if the second overtime period is reached (see below), and it is not a coincidental penalty the non-offending team will add a player (5-on-4 or 4-on-3) and the offending player will go to the penalty box. When the penalty that occurred during 4-on-4 or 3-on-3 is over the penalized player waits to return to the ice until the next whistle, after which the additional player added by the non-offending team is removed and play resumes at even strength (assuming no more penalties have been called).

ii) If still tied after the first 3 minute overtime, a second 3 minute stop time period will be played 3-on-3 with a goalie.

iii) If still tied after the second 3 minute overtime, each team will select 3 players for a shoot-out. All 6 players will shoot once on a rotation basis. The team scoring the most goals will be declared the winner. If still tied the shootout procedure will repeat with a different 6 players until a winner is declared. (NO shooter may repeat until all players, excluding goalies, have shot once).

14.   In the event of a dispute, the decision of the Tournament Committee is final.
